A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid period, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with former coach his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents his first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since March of that year.

Success also means he has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six finals, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive play style and regular reactions on court had led some to wonder if his ability to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, supported by an improved serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players traded break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first professional victory, gained dominance to create a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a close final set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he earned the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
